think that the article may have been making more of this than there is, read

This 'behavior-modification camp' seems to be the last act of parents who
are too frusterated with their children to do anything else. The problem with
that is that a lot of these children were sent to this camp, more aptly named
a 'concentration camp,' for reasons that are flimsy at best. I wonder if the
parents ever think to themselves that there is a reason that the camps are
in other countries. No, these are parents who are criminally weak-willed and
gullible. They think that this is the answer that their children need. They
think it will be harder for us that it will be for them, that they
can do it because they're strong enough.
This isn't an example of cruelty, but if dereliction of a parent's duties.
They think that their child is beyond their help. They can't control the child
anymore, so they will make the sacrafice and send their child to
a place where they can get the help they need. I can imagine the
thought process as I sit here. The problem with that logic is that most of
these children didn't really do anything that horrendous. A couple of them
smoked marijuana and had sex. Oh no! The last time I checked, that
was fairly normal teenage behavior.
For a fee, these parents send their children off to this camp in Jamaica called
Tranquility Bay. They are then sent through a program in which their personalities
are stripped, their creativity is ruthlessly subdued, and their humanity is
killed. These children coming out are, in most cases, robots. The cost? Forty
thousand American dollars per year.
