Recently, as in earlier today, a friend of mine was arrested on charges of statutory rape. Now, to all of you (two people) who read this, I can just hear you gasping through the monitor. I used to have the same reaction. I immediately denounced anyone who was convicted of rape (statutory or otherwise) as a horrible person who deserves what they got, no matter what it was. I still believe that a person who commits straight rape (fornication with an unwilling person) deserves the death penalty, baring extenuating circumstances, however, I am not sure about statutory rape anymore. If this person did it (I do know, and no I'm not saying), I think I would be okay with it. I know that the couple cares about each other greatly, and I know that it would be willingly. So maybe it's not so bad. They are seperated by a three year gap, approximately, and he is obviously over 18. However, I don't believe that this makes him deserve jail time if he did it. So who is in the right here, the police or the heart? For the first time, I am admitting online that I don't know. Who is in the right here? Email me: tyler@childprogeny.com Sign my guestbook.
